Sir Anerood Jugnauth not a candidate in next elections

Minister Mentor Sir Anerood Jugnauth (SAJ) announced during an end-of-year party organised by the SAJ Fans’ Club in Roches Noires, on Tuesday 18th December, that he will not stand as a candidate in the next parliamentary elections, but will do field work. “For the next elections, I will not stand as candidate. I will observe from afar. I will do field work. The population will be blamed if it makes a wrong choice. Of course, I trust the people of Mauritius to make the right choice in the next elections,” he said. SAJ hoped that after his departure, “the country will not be in ruins again. But if it were to happen, it’s the people who will be blamed.”

Making an outline of what has been accomplished by the Government since the takeover in December 2014, SAJ stated that the work done should be recognised. “The public, in all honesty, must recognize the work done by the Government. Navin Ramgoolam and his staff had led the country to ruin,” he stated. In his speech, he also appealed to the population to rally behind Pravind Jugnauth. “I am appealing to the population to support the Prime Minister. I am proud of what he has accomplished.”
