Budget 2018-19 - law & order : rs 8,5 billion to the Police Department

Recruitment of some 1 250 police and prison officers, construction of new police stations as well as the acquisition of a fleet of new vehicles are some of the measures announced by Pravind Jugnauth in his budget speech, for the police department.

  • 1,000 police officers including 200 women will be recruited.
  • Five new police stations will be constructed.
  • Set up of a regional detention centre at Piton and upgrading of 2 existing centres,
  • Recruitment of 38 prison officers.
  • Rs 107 million for the acquisition of vehicles.
  • Rs 88.3 million for the acquisition of equipment, including Security and Disaster Equipment.
  • Police stations will be equipped with CCTV cameras worth Rs 4 million.
  • Rs 97.4 million for the implementation of the Mauritius Forces Training Academy
  • Safe city project:  installation of 4,000 intelligence surveillance cameras.
  • acquisition of specialised equipment to detect persons under the influence of drugs, including drivers.
  • Rs 25 million to ADSU for the acquisition of modern specialised technological tools and equipment.
  • The National Coast Guard will acquire a new Multi-Purpose Offshore Patrol Vessel for coastal surveillance.
