Learning and discovering new things through amusing pedagogical activities is definitely one of the best ways of educating and empowering a child. Parents and children, the Jardin d’Eveil found at Albion is the ‘must’ place to visit. Set up by Terre de Paix, foundation for children, the Jardin D’eveil project was set up thanks to the financial support of Club Med IRS.

Dedicated to kids aged between 6 and 12 years, the Jardin d’Eveil has combined ecology, creativity, games of yesteryears and cultural expressions in an amazing natural set up to help in the holistic development of Mauritian kids. The concept of the ‘garden’ is based on children’s needs to be stimulated through playful and enriching manner for a good and stable physical, mental, affective and emotional development.

Set up amidst green pathways full of trees, variety of plants and flowers, playgrounds, garden centre, sand and water play areas, the Jardin d’Eveil is conducive to the awakening of all the senses in the child. Your child’s senses will be stimulated through the tasting, view and feel of various fruits and plants. His/her smell senses will be stimulated through the discovery of aromatic plants as well. At the garden centre, your child will have the opportunity to sow seedlings. Their direct contact with Mother Nature will help strengthen their respect and protection for nature as well as boost their mental development.

Listening skills also have a major place for development of the child at the Jardin d’Eveil through the ‘Overview’ corner. Children are indeed invited to discover and identify different natural sounds. The ecological space of the garden and the use of different open areas for creative activities also appeal to the imagination and the artistic development of children. Your child will empower himself/herself through yesteryear games as well.

The cultural element is also omnipresent throughout the journey at the garden with stops linking artistic expression, the discovery of bio diversity, access to mini golf and heritage of the Mauritian childhood. An effective and active tool for pedagogical support, your kids will no doubt have lots of fun and learn new interesting and creative things at the Jardin d’Eveil.

Visit to the garden is done in groups of about twenty children. Visits are free for children from public schools and non-governmental organisations. A contribution is requested from private schools and hotel mini-clubs. Any form of natural donation is most welcome for the maintenance and improvement of the infrastructure of the garden.  The welcome and guidance is done in a creative manner by trained young animators.

Access to the garden is free for the public on every last Sunday of the month. For more information, contact the Jardin D’eveil on 238-4196 or email on terredepaix@myt.mu or jardin.eveil@myt.mu. You can also visit the Facebook page of the Jardin D’eveil.
