Sashi Sohodeb honoured by the International Bhojpuri Filmfare Award

On Sunday 30 July 2017, Lock Sohodeb, also known as Sashi, received his fourth Bhojpuri Filmfare Award during the International Bhojpuri Filmfare Award ceremony held at the Indigo O2 Arena in London.

The event was conducted by the joint effort of Yash Films of Mumbai; Ministry of Tourism, India and Dhisoom. It was a star-studded event. There were some amazing performances from the Bhojpuri and Bollywood celebrities. The Filmfare awards started with red carpet at 5.00 pm. Bollywood and Bhojpuri superstars Ravi Kishan and Dinesh Lal Yadav were the hosts of the show.

Sashi was born in the beautiful island of Mauritius in a small village known to many as “La Caroline.” But besides being a professional and currently employed by Her Majesty’s Government, his love for his Motherland continued to strengthen. He has lived a varied career as a singer, composer, performer, lecturer and freelance journalist before becoming a dedicated writer. Sashi embarked in the singing field when he was a child and the literary scenes in 2009. He is also the author of ‘The Impact of the Mauritian Bhojpuri Traditions in Britain and Europe’-2010; ‘A Diamond for Jasmine’-2011- Rossendale Publisher, UK; ‘Biharee Baabu’- 2012, MCS Ltd. Bhojpuri Gungunavah -2013, MCS Ltd;The beauties of Caroline Bel Air;” He is the proud recipient of International Eminent Writers Award by the Bihar Government - 20/07/2013. Sashi’s contribution to Bhojpuri language is endless. Within the last two years, Sashi has collaborated on Bhojpuri projects initiated by the Mahatma Gandhi Institute and University of Tokyo. Sashi’s unconditional love for his countrymen is obvious from his latest publications: ‘A special tribute to Takeswar Bhunjun’ (Mauritius) October 2016 and ‘A special tribute to Pundit Tookaram Sumboo’ (UK) June 2017.

Sashi’s hit songs: “Laila Laila; Eh Kabootri; Bonne Anniversaire; Hamar Phool kahan Re and Pani Pilade mori Jaan;” and his books substantiate his international fame and awards.

Sashi is the only Mauritian to have bagged four Bhojpuri Filmfare Awards, (Lucknow 2013; Mumbai2015 & 2016 and London 2017). Sashi was proud to receive his award in the presence of dignitaries like the High Commissioner for India, His Excellency Mr. Y.K. Sinha, Film stars Shatrughan Sinha, Govinda, Abhay Sinha, Film Director and Producer, and was also privileged to meet Television serial artists: Karisma Tanna, Karan Tacker and Kystal D’Souza, Rashami Desai, and Bhojpuri superstars: Pawan Singh, Madhu Sharma and many more.

Sashi would like to thank his wife, Premila and children: Roma and Yash, and all his family and friends for their support and would like to share his achievements with all his fans.
