Grant of State land to his son: Soodhun apologises for misleading parliament

In a personal explanation, the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Lands and Housing, Showkutally Soodhun told the National Assembly on Tuesday 3 May that in regard to a reply he gave on 26 April 2016, he did not give the exact answer and that he apologises. “In the heat of the debate, I stated in my reply that on the 10th February 2011, Compagnie Culture de Tabac Ltee applied for an excision in favour of Société Mohamed Umeir Ibne Showkut, when ‘I was not Minister at all.’ I also said ‘On 15th February 2011… I was not Minister.’ It was my intention to convey to the House that I was not Minister of Housing and Lands at the material time.” The minister added that it was never his intention to mislead the House on a matter which is in public domain.
