You will never experience swimming the same again. The world’s fastest underwater scooter, launched in Mauritius last December, will make you enjoy the aquatic experience on a whole new level. Found at Sunset Boulevard, Grand Bay, Seabob Mauritius offers guests the opportunity to experience two types of activities.

“We take our guest out of the lagoon to freely and fully enjoy the Seabob. It’s the ultimate high performance craft,” says Gary Fefer, Manager of Seabob Mauritius. First, as the Seabob is the fastest underwater scooter, you will be able to slide over the water at the maximum of 20 km/h and experience thrilling sensations. But if you do not have the cold feet and you are a fan of adventures, opt for the diving activity. The Seabob will take you underwater to explore the reef and the magical underwater life.

But how does it work? “It floats on the water and you just need to use your body and arms to turn and dive underwater. You need to hold a trigger on your right hand to move forward, and touch the buttons to choose your speed (green to increase power, red to decrease power). As soon as you release the trigger, the engine stops immediately,” explains Gary.

A brand new concept, the Seabob is a revolutionary device often described as a ‘seatoy.’ “The Seabob was built and designed by the German company Cayago. They are specialised in « luxury sea toys ». All elements of the Seabob are at the forefront of technology. The battery is in lithium-ion. The touch buttons to program the machine and choose the speed makes use the Piezo technology, allowing millions of pressures.”

No worries about the security parameters even if you are outside the lagoon. The manager ensures that all the necessary precautions are taken. “We delimit a safety perimeter in the open sea with buoys, and we have a security boat on the spot in charge of controlling the area. Customers are required to stay in this supervised area to play with the machine,” he utters.

The Seabob activity is suitable and open for all as it an effortless controllable engine. However Gary Fefer underlines that those aged between 10 and 16 have at least to know how to swim and need their parents’ consent as well. “Parents need to sign disclaimer forms. Also, children aged 10 are not allowed to handle and ride the Seabob alone. They can enjoy the activity by clinging to the legs or the neck of their parents who will be riding the Seabob. Moreover, as in most nautical activities, customers need to certify that they have no contraindicated medical advice. Also the Seabob is not recommended for pregnant women and those who have practiced diving on the same day.”

One hundred percent electric, the Seabob is also a 100% eco-friendly engine, thus not harmful to the aquatic life. So what equipment will you need or what do you need to wear so as to fully enjoy the unique experience? Just wear a tight swimsuit. Regarding equipments, Gary explains that Seabob Mauritius provides guest with masks and instructors will guide you all through by explaining how the engine works.

Prices are as follows: For residents - Rs1000 (for 10 minutes), Rs1800 (20 minutes), and Rs 2500 (30 minutes). Gary Fefer highlights that the prices includes the boat tour and the renting of equipments such as masks. Seabob Mauritius also rents GoPro camera to guests who wish to take memorable shots and clips of their experience.  An 8Gb USB drive is also sold at the price of Rs600 for you to save all your pictures and films.
