Nicolas Goldstein: “Mauritius is full of potential entrepreneurs”

His main objective is to help young entrepreneurs to set up their businesses. Nicolas Goldstein, a French entrepreneur specialising in Internet technologies, has been deeply involved with the emergence of BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) in Mauritius since 2004. Impressed with Mauritius, its business environment and quality of life, he decided to move here with his family. Nicolas Goldstein explains that Mauritius is full of potential entrepreneurs who need to be guided through the proper channels. His company, Mauritius Start-up Incubator (MSI), is here to guide start-ups towards attaining sustainable growth. Not only does it help Mauritian companies but it also acts as a medium of communication for foreign start-ups in the ICT sector to be implemented in Mauritius. “It acts as a one-stop shop,” he says. One common example that he always mentions is that of CK Publishing, which has been nurtured at the Mauritius Start-up Incubator. He further explains that CK Publishing is a web agency specialised in web marketing and web design. MSI has been helping this company to find customers on the French market. CK Publishing has now a solid brand identity on the French market and is one of the main success stories of MSI. Our young innovative entrepreneur is confident thatthere are many more success stories to unfold in the near future. Mauritius Start up Incubator is also about helping French companies to conduct market surveys in Mauritius and to assist in the recruitment and training of the right candidates so as to provide them with a job later on. In this context, MSI is planning to collaborate with the Ceridian Training Centre. “MSI is here to bring value addition for French companies or European companies wishing to grow,” states Nicolas. For him, Mauritians are ready for that digital transformation that has already taken place abroad. However, the only issue is that people need to be trained and be sufficiently motivated to go forward. His immediate goal is to identify those people willing to go through it so as to make them reach expertise in their respective field. When asked whether the ICT sector is now a saturated field in Mauritius, he says that “despite being really competitive, the ICT sector remains a field of excellence. I would further add that if a youngster is not able to find a job suiting his profile, this means that he does not know how to present himself and his expertise.” He highlighted the issues faced by start-ups in general. From a non-administrative point of view, start-ups do lack some support and guidance on how to implement their project. “MSI experts help in conceiving the business model and guide entrepreneurs through well defined channels. Moreover, it is important for those start-ups to always have at hand a good case scenario and a bad case scenario.” [[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"13345","attributes":{"class":"media-image wp-image-22008 alignleft","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"304","height":"269","alt":"BPO"}}]] Future Projects One of the projects really dear to him is the one to provide a service of skills evaluation so as to guide youngsters to identify jobs that suit their profiles. “This evaluation consists of knowing why a candidate can’t find a job and together with the support of the training centre, the candidate can ensure that he works on recognising his own skills.”
