The students did not make it to the finals but yet they won an interesting prize for Mauritius: Best Talent. For the students, the competition was an exposure and they were able to learn new things. Ishani and Drishti are law students and they participated in the competitions though their knowledge about business is not as high as compared to the other team members. The team was able to learn and build from different fragments to be able to make it to the international level after winning against Charles Telfair and University of Mauritius.

“It was indeed an enriching experience. I was selected because of my public speaking and communication skills. The five-day experience in Hong Kong contributed to our character building and changed our perspectives. We were able to interact with other students coming from different countries,” Drishti Mohabeer revealed.

The participants won the Talent Show Award. They mesmerized the jury panels and public with their outstanding dance performances. “We created a fusion dance. We merged African and Indian concepts. We portrayed different ethnicities through our performances. This stood out against the rest and we were praised for our performances,” they confided.

Now the four participants will be coaching the next batch who will be participating in this competition in the year to come. “As per the rules, we are not allowed to participate again but we can surely help our fellows.”

HSBC-HKU Asia Pacific competition is a three-day event bringing together top students from 24 universities in 17 Asia Pacific locations and beyond, with more than 60 international senior business executives to judge at the competition. Universities outside the Asia Pacific region also participated, making this a truly international event. During the event, team building activities and cultural experience sessions are organized to promote cross-team collaboration and cross-cultural understanding.

Middlesex University has been promoting various activities among its students. Each year, the students participate in internal, national and regional competitions. Drishti has been participating in debate and public speaking competitions organised by ICAC. The aim of these activities is to make the students understand that university life is not purely academic but at the same time, they must develop other skills as well.
