The High Commissioner of India in Mauritius, Sri Abhay Thakur, handed over the cheque issued by the Indian Government for the initial financing of the Metro Express to the Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth. The handing over ceremony of the cheque took place at the Treaty Room of the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday.
The check is worth USD 27.5 million, a little over
Rs 900 million. For his part, Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth thanked the Government of India for its contribution to Mauritius’ biggest infrastructure project. “It is an exceptional financial support for this project. It is a landmark for Mauritius and I am grateful to India for helping to raise the level of infrastructure in the country.”
