The grand finale of the National Painting Championship Xavier Le Juge de Segrais took place on Saturday October 22nd at the Eureka House.

The finale of 7th edition of the famous championship, which aims at promoting young Mauritian talents, took place on Saturday October 22nd at the Eureka House. The event was organised by the Shiva Yoga Centre in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports under the theme: Indoor /Outdoor Sports Game Live.

The participating candidates were divided into two different categories namely Category A for those aged between 14 to 18 years and Category B for those aged between 19 to 29 years. It was under a round of applause that the winners were announced and rewarded. In the first category, the first prize went to Jenifer Fanfan and the second prize went to Ikraah Bibi Mehtaab Mohun, while Jimmy Fabien Samane was rewarded at the third place.
The award of the Most Promising Male Artist went to Mevish Purmaissur while the Most Promising Female Artists award went to Jenifer Fanfan. Various young artists, namely Yeshna Ramguth, Aicha Katijah Hosmun, Hertiksha Sulakshna Gopaul and Jenifer Fanfan, were also rewarded for their creativity with the Young Talents Shield. The Special Jury prize went to Shivish Kondurun Alleear, Aksheeta Hurchund and Ajmirah Jaumeer.
In the second category, the first prize as well as the Most Promising Female Artist trophy went to Heynna Rekha. For their support to the youth in artistic venture, the Shiva Yoga Centre presented the Outstanding Speical Award to various personalities namely Jacques de Maroussem, B. Goolaub, N. Bhundoo, V. Aubeeluck, G. Jhuneea, S. Sunnassee, S. Narainsamy Mootoosamy, A. Gourrege, H. Sreemantoo, V. Ramlall and Lida O’reilly (OSK).
Note that the exhibition of all the paintings done by the participating candidates of this event will be exhibited at the Chateau Villebague, Grand Rosalie on Sunday December 4th. The exhibition will be open from 9am to 1.30pm and the entrance will be free for the public. The visitors will have to vote one of the paintings as the Best Painting.
