Reinforcement of commercial relations between Mauritius and Belgium

The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Mauritius with residence in Tanzania, Paul Cartier, paid a farewell call on Wednesday on the Prime Minister, Minister of Home Affairs, External Communications and National Development Unit and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Pravind Kumar Jugnauth, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis.

In a statement, Paul Cartier recalled that this is his third visit to Mauritius and highlighted that both Belgium and Mauritius share the same values and priorities. He stated that discussions with the Prime Minister focused on the reinforcement of commercial relations while adding that the two Governments are working towards this objective.

Born in Belgium in 1954, Mr Cartier is a medical doctor and a specialist in Tropical Medicine. He entered into a career of international cooperation in 2001. From 2001 to 2006, he was Attaché International Cooperation at the Belgian Embassy in Washington. Afterwards, he occupied the post of Minister-Counselor, International Cooperation, at the Belgian Embassy in Kinshasa from 2006 to 2010.

Mr Paul Cartier was posted at the Headquaters from 2010 to 2012 after which he was Minister-Counselor International Cooperation at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the United Nations in Geneva till 2016. Since then, he was Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium to Mauritius.
