Le Défi Media Group gives away CSR fund to organisation

As part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program, the Défi Media Group, through its Group Human Resources Manager, Mr. Imran Bahadoor, presented a cheque to the representative of the Physically Handicapped Welfare Association (PHWA) and Century Welfare Association during the week. This gesture symbolizes the partnership between Le Défi Média Group and the NGO. According to Mr. Bahadoor, funding for community projects is an important component of Le Défi Media Group's projects, which is consistent with its commitment to help vulnerable groups in society.

The Physically Handicapped Welfare Association was founded in 1960. Previously known as the Criple Welfare Association, it changed its name to include people who are physically challenged in the age range of 18 to 73 years of age. The pensioners spend the day at the centre and manufacture handicrafts products which are then put up for sale.

The physically challenged are entitled to outings and wheelchairs are available to them. The president of the association, Mrs. Soopaya Poinen, appeals to private firms to provide them with funds under their CSR Program, which will enable the NGO to continue their work for the benefit of people who are physically challenged. On behalf of the association, she thanked the Défi Media Group for its help, which is a hope for those in need. Founded in 1969, the Century Welfare Association is both an NGO and a charitable institution. It set off as an education institution but later on diversified its activities. It is a school for the handicapped and also an accompanying school for young girls. According to the director, Mr Ayoob Saab Shamad, the accompanying school is here to educate young girls who dropped out of school to catch up on their education as well as learn how to become an entrepreneur. The young girls spend around three to four years in the school. The director reveals that CSR Funds are a great source of help in addition to government grants. “We are doing our best for poor families. In our association, a child can benefit from the help of a psychologist, a therapist and is offered a proper lunch. We try to help children outside schools. For example, if a handicapped child lacks facilities in his home, we reach out to help him/her. All these are only possible if we can get help.” With the CSR Funds they have received, the director believes the good work will continue and he is looking forward to carry out more projects.
