On Tuesday 28th August, Yousuf Mohamed sent a letter to the Secretary of the Bar Council. The Senior Counsel accused Hervé Duval Jr, who is Ameenah Gurib-Fakim's lawyer, of conflicts of interest. According to him, Hervé Duval Jr. wears several hats, that is he is president of the Bar Council, a potential witness in the setting up of a Commission of Inquiry on Alvaro Sobrinho and lawyer of the former president before the Caunhye Commission. The Senior Counsel called for the opening of an investigation on Hervé Duval Jr. and contended that he must retire as President of the Bar Council while investigation on the former President of the Republic is ongoing.
In fact, following four interrogation sessions before the Caunhye Commission, major clashes have arisen and several complaints have been filed to the Bar Council. Yousuf Mohamed also sent a letter to the Bar Council Secretary, Yahia Nazroo, to demand an investigation into a conflicting situation whereby, according to him, the lawyer Yanilla Moonshiram is representing the former President of the Republic before the Caunhye Commission.
Before the Caunhye Commission on Thursday, Ameenah Gurib-Fakim’s lawyer Nadeem Hyderkhan, stated that his client had drafted five of the fifteen ‘terms of reference’ of the Commission of Inquiry which she had instituted on the Sobrinho affair.
