"When I was appointed ICT Minister, I came forward with this project because we have a vision for this country. We not only want to use more technology but we also want to democratise access to technology and allow people to connect to the Internet," said the Prime Minister.

"I called upon many operators and i need not explain the vision because operators being experts in their field, they understood the importance of the project," said Pravind Jugnauth.

350 Wi-Fi terminals will be operated across the country in 20 regions. They will be in community centres, nursing homes for seniors, district councils and municipalities. The objective is to facilitate internet access. The Wi-Fi signal will be available within a 50-metre radius from the hotspot. Regarding the bandwidth, centres equipped with cables will get speeds of upto 500 kbps while those using fibre optic will get speeds of upto 10 Mbps.
