Since 2012, Mauritius has seen its score plummeting in the Corruption Perception Index. In 2018, with a score of 50, Mauritius is ranked 54th in the world out of 180 countries. This Sunday 9th December, we are celebrating the International Anti-Corruption day worldwide. While Lovania Pertab sees positive signs, Rajendra Patil Hunma believes otherwise.  It is time to deliberate where does Mauritius stand in the fight against corruption. Are we on the right track? Salary compensation

Does it Really Compensate for Loss in Purchasing Power?

On Thursday 6th December 2018, the Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pravind Jugnauth, chairing the annual tripartite meeting of trade unions, employers federations and government bodies, announced a salary compensation of Rs  400. This compensation is payable as from January 2019. But does the annual compensation really compensate for the loss of workers’ purchasing power?

Gitana Kootbally, 26, has been working as a physiotherapist in Mauritius since 2016. She is of Lithuanian origin, from Telsiai, the former capital of Lithuania. She got  married to Shuaib Kootbally and since then has settled in our country as an expat.
