This initiative is part of a vast outpouring of support towards the community called “Rodrigues Solidarity Project” following the invitation of the government to economic actors to sponsor people living in pockets of poverty. This first distribution will enable poor families to establish micro-farming activities. The production of ‘high end’ fresh chicken is the first venture undertaken by Trimetys in 1998 before it launched into hotels, real estate and education to become an influential group. The choice of Rodrigues to carry out this policy is quite logical given that since 2012, the group operates a 4-star hotel at Anse Ally. Beneficiary families are all from Grand Lafouche Mangues. They have been identified according to their degree of economic and social insecurity, especially food. The chicks come from a Mauritian firm based in Tamarin. Barrels were recycled on site to serve as cages for the chicks at the initial stage of breeding. The principle is to let the very young chicks grow outdoors under natural light. A local project manager will be responsible for supporting farmers throughout the process from farming to sales. “With this breeding project, we have the will to insert ourselves in a local logic characterized by Rodrigues entrepreneurship mindset,” said Georges Talbotier, CEO of Trimetys Group. He added that his Group promotes farming techniques which are respectful of people and animals. “Rodrigues Solidarity Project aims to be sustainable because it is based around the values of the group: trust, innovation and respect.” The project brings together various partners, including the regional assembly and local societies of Rodrigues and the Ministry of Finance. Among the ten economic actors operating in Rodrigues are: Mauvilac, Meaders Animal Feeds, Teleport, the Lions Club of Rodrigues and Le Roi Soleil PV which part of the project. In regards to culture, IPBD and Africans Classic and Enterprise RPM will collaborate; and finally Red Bull and Velogic will provide transport logistics. It is expected that a partnership contract will be officially signed at the ceremony with every partner in order to give solemnity to the event. In addition to the chicken farmer who is the main axis, “Rodrigues Solidarity Project” will intervene in other areas such as youth training, culture, infrastructure, and improving the quality of life.
