The initiator of Raise Brave Girls, Prisheela Mottee, states that they want girls and women to be brave enough to say NO. “The campaign has support from people on an international level as well. We had to start somewhere and we started with #SayNOvember. Therefore, we have collected video messages and messages which are published on social media. We would like to thank everyone who came forward with a message because, your voice matters.”
She argues that Mauritian society can be described as a patriarchal society. It has been observed that in spite of being in 2017, a number of girls and young women are not motivated to pursue their dreams. Some girls and young women are still tied to the shackles of patriarchal society. “We aim at encouraging girls to become strong women, to boost up their abilities so that they can rise above positive limits and cross boundaries to attain their dreams.
We want to teach young women to stand up after each failure and to forget the quest of creating the ideal image for girls. Furthermore, make a move to change the traditional mindset and witness experiences and stories which illustrate that nothing is impossible for women.”
RBG wants to inspire girls to go for their dreams. They collect real life stories and messages from young women who, in turn, help to inspire and motivate others. So far, they have collected more than 20 inspirational stories and 30 motivational quotes. The Facebook group has reached more than 5,000 members and young women are taking the stand to share their stories.
