The Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth met the press on Wednesday at the Treasury Building in Port Louis to give an overview of his recent mission in New York and his participation at the 72nd General Assembly of the United Nations.
Pravind Jugnauth pointed out that Chagos Archipelagos was at the fore of most of the bilateral meetings he had and was the key point in his address at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly on 21 September 2017.
He highlighted that he made a case so that Africa has at least one permanent seat at the UN Security Council and the effects of climate change on Small Islands Developing States.
He also mentioned that the Agenda 2063 of the African Union adopted in January 2015, which is in consonance with the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, was another important point that he raised at the Assembly.
The Prime Minister expressed his thanks to Member States for their continued support in the completion of the decolonisation process of Mauritius and reiterated that Mauritius does not have any intention of seeking the disruption of the security arrangements currently in place in Diego Garcia.
During his mission, the Prime Minister had the opportunity to formally and informally meet several world leaders and dignitaries with whom he had cordial discussions and exchange of views.
The Prime Minister availed himself of the meeting with the local press to answer questions relating to current affairs in the country.
