MP Kalyan Tarolah, who is also Parliamentary Private Secretary, faces allegations of sending obscene messages and photos to a lady. Latchmee Devi Adheen, a resident of Quatre-Sœurs, in a statement to police, claims that Tarolah sent her the messages from his mobile phone while he was sitting in Parliament on 11 April 2017.
Sunday Times broke the story on its website earlier this week, and since then, the news has created social uproar. The Mauritius Society Renewal, in a statement to the press, has condemned the actions by the MP. The founder of the Society, Dr Roukaya Kasenally, wants the Prime Minister to take action. Dr Kasenally says that such behaviour towards women by MPs cannot be tolerated, recalling the recent incident where Vice Prime Minister Showkutally Soodhun ordered a lady out of a seminar and another incident where MP Ravi Rutnah compared a journalist to a ‘female dog’. MP Kalyan Tarolah is unreachable since the incident was made public.
