After a year with lots of struggle in all sectors, a positive atmosphere prevails at the start of this year. Several projects are expected to kick start in 2018. This article showcases all the major projects both in the public and private sectors.

Publicité

The Fast Track Committee, chaired by the Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth in November, consists of nearly 77 private sector projects, mainly in real estate. The total amount of investments is estimated at Rs 95 billion. Among them are several projects under the Property Development Scheme and Smart Cities. At the government level, most projects concern road development and public infrastructure.

Public projects

Along with the Metro Express, there are several other infrastructural projects that will kick off as from this year. Some of them include the second phase of the Ring Road, which will link Sorèze to Coromandel. There is also the transformation of the two bus stations of Port Louis: Victoria Square and Immigration Square.

  • Road Sorèze-Coromandel

The 350 metres long bridge crossing Grande Rivière North West at the height of Sorèze to join Chebel will cost around Rs 2.3 billion. This project aims at diverting the traffic from lower Plaine Wilhems through the highway of Sorèze to the entrance of Port-Louis.

  • The Phoenix Interchange

This is a project we have been talking about for quite some time. The site will finally start in 2018. It involves the construction of a flyover at the roundabout of Pont-Fer, at the cost of Rs 2.4 billion. This stadium will be inspired by the major sports facilities existing in Brazil, the United Kingdom and China. The Côte d'Or sports complex will have a 50m Olympic pool. Catering areas and commercial locations, among others, will be included. The stands will accommodate up to 15,000 spectators.
