Playing the blame game?

A slight decrease in overall tourist arrivals during the first quarter of this year, compared to last year coupled with a sharp decline in Chinese tourists visiting Mauritius in 2018, is sending shivers down the spine of stakeholders in the industry. Is it a seasonal weakness or does it indicate a more serious underlying issue? The debate has been going for some weeks now.

Raj Dayal suspended from MSM 

Raj Dayal, Member of Parliament, has been suspended from MSM Party on Thursday, following  a decison taken at the Political Bureau. This was announced by the leader and the Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth himself. The reason given: The absence of the latter at the 1st May Rally and Political Bureau meeting held on Thursday without any prior notice. Raj Dayal has been asked to provide an explanation to the leader.

It should be noticed that last week, Raj Dayal had met the Prime Minister as he was not satisfied with the way he was being treated following the “bal couleur” case. Raj Dayal was elected in the Constituency No 9 and was Minister of Environment. He had stepped down after he was accused of being implicated in the “bal couleur” case. In a recent affidavit, he stated that he was forced to step down by the Mentor Minister Sir Aneerood Jugnauth for five weeks until investigation is completed.
