MBC journalists sanctioned over debate participation

Two MBC journalists, Ritvik Neerbun and Ashok Beeharry, are currently under warning after their participation in a debate organised by the Media Trust. In addition to his warning, Ashok Beeharry has seen some of his responsibilities removed. The two journalists participated in a debate on the theme: “What is the future of public service journalism?” The MBC claims that the journalists expressed their political views during the debate which is against its regulations. In a communiqué, the Media Trust defended the two journalist’s rights to speech and expression.
