Youth Speak Forum: “Is Mauritian youth in sync with the country’s progress?”

The Youth Speak Forum hosted by AIESEC Mauritius was held on Saturday 25th June at the IGCIC, Phoenix. The theme of the event was: ‘Is the youth of Mauritius in sync with the countries progress?’ The Youth Speak Forum, hosted by AIESEC Mauritius, is a platform for youngsters around Mauritius to understand the reason for unemployment in the country and to become aware of the untapped opportunities for employment. Unlike any other event, YSF is structured a bit differently: A survey was released which documented what the youth think about the future, about global issues and what they envision for themselves. The survey enabled members of the YSF to narrow down on a theme for the event – “Is the youth of Mauritius really in sync with the progress of the country?” This survey attempted to answer questions about how can the youth benefit from the progress made in avenues like education, entrepreneurship, financial services and technology. Eminent personalities from different sectors delivered key note speeches during the forum - Education: Yamal Matabudul, Director Academics and Research at Valet School of Hospitality and Tourism, Entrepreneurship: Sridhar Nagarajan, CEO Maubank, Financial Service: Mathieu Mandeng, CEO Standard Chartered Bank, Technology: Vidia Moneegan, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Ceridian group. This was followed by a panel discussion taking place among the speakers to reach a consensus on what the next steps should be.

Speaking about the event, Arvind Nathan, president of AIESEC Mauritius, said: “The issues Mauritian youth have been facing, more often than not, we hear people blaming it on external factors. Taking ownership towards careers, the youth should allow their perspectives to be challenged. Youth Speak Forum is an event intended towards that.” The youth at the YSF are passionate about developing the youngsters of Mauritius, as they believe this to be the need of the hour for the betterment of the country in the coming years. “We want to make this possible by ensuring more participation of eminent personalities and youngsters.”
