Young Ocean Champions Award : blue tourism that cares

The 3rd Edition of Young Ocean Champions Award is open. Young people from Mauritius and Seychelles between the age of 13 and 30 can participate up to Friday 8 September 2017 in this event organised by SIDS Youth AIMS Hub (SYAH) and Port Louis Shapers Hub.

For the third edition of #SeeingBlue, the organisers are looking for precisely ‘solutions for responsible blue tourism’. Participants will have to define what blue tourism looks like and send ideas on a blue tourism that cares for the ocean. They can choose between two options. Either a project idea - this can be a product, concept, social enterprise model, you name it. Or, an innovative advocacy idea!

Why participate?

#SeeingBlue is a project by young people, for young people, to empower our generation to protect the ocean. In this context, the winning team will receive USD 500 in prize money, as well as USD 1,000 in seed funding and mentoring from experts in the ocean industry to support them in the implementation of their project. The jury will also choose national champions who will receive attractive prizes. The Young Ocean Champions will be invited to the Ocean AdvocaSea Bootcamp in Mauritius to be held from December 17 to Jan 18 where they will have training in project management, leadership and ocean advocacy, networking opportunities and the chance to discover the underwater world through scuba diving.

Who can apply?

The Young Ocean Champions Award is open to young people from Mauritius and Seychelles. Either individually or in groups of up to five people in either category. There are two categories :
(a) 13 - 18 years old, and
(b) 19 - 30 years old.

Announcement of shortlist*: 15 October 2017

Prize giving and announcement of winner: Winners will be announced during our Ocean AdvocaSea Bootcamp.
