The Mauritius Tax Payers Association, through its chairman Sandragassen Rungasawmi, is asking the Government to introduce the rural tax, in the wake of pre-budget consultations. The rural tax has for long been a taboo subject in Mauritius, and the last time a similar tax was introduced, it had serious sociopolitical consequences, forcing the Government to backpedal. Are we ready for it today?

National Leather Strategy

Revamping leather industry in Mauritius

The launching of a National Leather Value Chain Strategy by the Minister of Business Soomilduth Bholah took place on Wednesday 15th May at Voilà Hotel, Bagatelle. Prepared by consultants from the Africa Leather and Leather Products Institute (ALLPI), COMESA in collaboration with SME Mauritius, this strategy aims to give a new makeover to the leather sector in the country.

Educators Science Workshop

A hands-on introduction to teach kids and empower teachers

A series of workshops to empower pre-primary and lower primary school teachers to teach science were organised this week by the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre. Lady (Dr) Sue Dale Tunnicliffe, from University College London, UK, was the facilitator for those workshops, which brought together 80 pre-primary educators and another 80 educators from the primary level.
