Vanilla House: A pure bliss

Nestled under the large acacia trees in the bay of Black River, the Vanilla House is found in the heart of the island’s most exotic region. Situated at the heart of the entrance of the beautiful Black River Gorges nature reserve, the guest house is surrounded by the sea, beaches, and mountains, the picturesque villages of Black River, Le Morne and Chamarel.

Launched four years ago by Didier de Senneville, the Vanilla House is especially suited for visitors who are looking for an authentic chic experience with all its refinements and simplicity. Operating on a bed and breakfast basis, the guest house will welcome you in one of its nine beautifully decorated, up-market double en suite guest rooms. 

The modern and spacious rooms all have a fully equipped kitchenette, shower and en-suite toilet. On sunny mornings, you will enjoy a hearty and delicious breakfast comprising of fresh local fruits, freshly baked pastries and other delicacies on the terrace of your room, in the tranquillity of the bird filled tropical gardens. In the afternoon, you can make use of the lounge area, adjacent to the reception, to meet up with friends or just relax with an exciting book from the library boasting with more than 1,000 books to choose from.

If you are more in a chill out mood, you want to put your feet up and enjoy a tranquil moment, you can relax at the pool area. To enjoy Mauritius’s most beautiful white sandy beaches, you can access them either by foot, car or use of public transport. All beaches are about 2.6km from Vanilla House. If you cannot go without internet or you wish to stay connected online, you can enjoy the free complimentary WiFi. 

You will find the spectacular variety of outdoor activities available in that part of the island. Gerald Durrell Endemic Wildlife Sanctuary, Seven Coloured Earths and Black River Gorges National Park are within a 25-minute drive by car. You can arrange for the activities by yourself or with assistance of the welcoming staff of Vanilla House. 

Vanilla House is also home to various wellness and holistic studios, offering therapy and spa treatments where you can wind down and recharge your batteries. The services are offered at discounted rates to the guests and need to be booked in advance.  

For lunch and dinner, you can order at The Vanilla Bean restaurant which offers local cuisine or you can taste the local restaurants found in the nearby villages. When the last golden sun rays are lighting up the sky, gather at the common space near the pool. For dinner, you can light up a barbeque or simply chill around the campfire under the night skies filled with stars. 

Note that accommodation is limited to 2 persons per room (+ a baby aged between 0 and 2 years free of charge or from 2 – 6 years for a small supplement). The accommodation of children is possible, as there are two adjacent communicating rooms.
