Two fatal accidents in one day

Prakash Buskalawa, truck driver and resident of Camp Thorel, was killed in an accident at Richefond, Saint-Julien on Wednesday 16 March. According to the victim’s mother, the accident occurred when a bus overtook the van in which they were both travelling. “I was in the vehicle with my son. A bus tried to overtake us. I was thrown out of the vehicle after the collision. My son got stuck,” explained Kamlaoutee Buskalawa. A dozen bus passengers were wounded during the accident, including three who are in critical condition. They were admitted to Flacq Hospital. The bus was carrying workers, according to sources. Prakash Buskalawa, aged 34, died at the hospital. The bus driver, a resident of Ecroignard aged 63 was arrested. He underwent a breath-test which returned negative. Police investigation is ongoing to establish the circumstances surrounding this tragedy. On the other hand, Kunal Luckoo, a cook aged 29, lost his life in an accident on the same day when his motorcycle collided with a van. This inhabitant of Goodlands was leaving Cottage village when the tragedy occurred. According to sources, the van was coming from the opposite direction. The driver aged 51 underwent a breath-test which returned negative.
