Shamila Sonah-Ori withdraws her nomination 

The choice of Shamila Sonah-Ori to be part of the Electoral Supervisory Commission (ESC) and the Electoral Boundaries Commission caused a wave of discontent within the opposition. The lawyer finally decided to withdraw from this appointment. 

In a letter to Acting President Barlen Vyapoory on Wednesday, Shamila Sonah-Ori said she does not want the Presidency to move forward with her appointment to the Electoral Supervisory Commission and the Electoral Boundaries Commission “because of the excessive politicization of this case.” 

However, Shamila Sonah-Ori states that she is qualified to sit on both institutions. In her letter to the Acting President of the Republic, she claims that she is a professional with a 25-year-career as a solicitor and that she has always worked with honesty and integrity. But she preferred to withdraw because of the bad faith of the various members of the opposition and because of the comments made by them.
