Selon un ex-militaire - Les Chagossiens des « inconsequential pawns » pour les Britanniques

Le vote de la résolution des Nations unies du 22 mai dernier n’en finit plus d’occuper les colonnes des journaux et des blogs.

Hier soir, c’est la page de Strategic Culture Foundation, qui se veut une plateforme d’analyse et de recherche sur la géopolitique globale, qui s’y est mis avec un article intitulé « Britain, Human Rights, The Chagos Islands and Crimea ». L’article, sévère envers l’administration britannique, est écrit par un vétéran des armées britanniques et australiennes, Brian Cloughley et ancien membre de la mission des Nations unies au Cachemire. « On May 20 the United Kingdom appointed its first human rights ambassador to the United Nations and two days later the General Assembly of the United Nations overwhelmingly condemned the UK for its continuing colonial treatment of the Chagos Islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean », démarre l’article avant de faire l’historique du déracinement des Chagossiens.

. « The Chagos islanders were not given an opportunity to vote in a referendum or in any manner at all before being expelled from their homes, and continue to be denied any voice in their future », regrette l’auteur.
Et de conclure : « The politicians and mandarins in London consider the Chagos Islanders to be inconsequential pawns and will never allow them to have a vote about their future, as took place in Crimea. So much for Britain’s new-found desire to “defend human rights across the globe.” »
