Relaxation, dance, fun, fitness – SAS Dance Group is the place to be after a stressful day at school or work. Open in Triolet by Mr Gyaneshwur Rughoobear, SAS Dance Group offers a variety of dance/fitness classes from ballet to zumba. So get ready to groove while getting fit.  [[{"type":"media","view_mode":"media_large","fid":"10194","attributes":{"class":"media-image size-medium wp-image-16999 alignleft","typeof":"foaf:Image","style":"","width":"187","height":"300","alt":"DSC_4521"}}]]The founder of the group has been active in theatres since a young age. That is why after his retirement, Mr Rughoobear decided to pursue his dream through performances in the field of art. What inspired him? “Having worked as a teacher, I knew how children are stressed in their daily activities. SAS Dance Company is giving an opportunity to the people of Mauritius to go to a place for relaxation because when children experience the magic of a dance class early in their developmental years, they build a base of fundamentals that stays with them throughout life. Hence, we decided to open a dance company where children and adults would benefit through the learning of art, the auditory development of dance education and physical fitness,” explains Mr Rughoobear. Located at 9th Mile Triolet, SAS Dance Group offers a variety of classes to children and adults, including ballet, zumba, yoga, bollywood and hiphop. “Whether you are an absolute beginner or advanced level, we have something for everyone and for all age groups. All of our classes are taught by a professional and international teacher who has years of experience and most importantly lots of creativity, commitment and enthusiasm. Alongside regular classes, we also offer alternative private classes for many dance forms,” states the founder. Zumba classes are held every evening and ballet classes are held on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Bollywood classes are conducted every Thursdays and Fridays. In the context of its first anniversary, the group provided its students with the opportunity to perform during an annual show held at RTI Auditorium, Ilot on 26 December 2015. However, courses or classes in this art are very rare to be found in Mauritius. However, SAS Dance Group has started, to the joy of many, with ballet classes, conducted by Mr Suraj Nanda, an international choreographer from India who has been teaching in this field for the past seven years. “Ballet is the combination of music, dance, drama and poetry. The special thing about ballet is that dancers gain a sense of self confidence and pride about what they can accomplish. It is very difficult to find ballet classes in Mauritius and this is the reason why SAS Dance Company decided to bring this beautiful art of ballet to the people of Mauritius,” explains the teacher. Mr Nanda has studied different dance forms from various companies, and from national and international dance instructors. He has also worked in India with top brass bollywood choreographers such as Remo D’Souza and Fernando Aguillera. However, the company is now successful. “SAS Dance Company currently has 250 clients who attend classes in different dance forms. It was very challenging in the beginning to make people aware of new dance styles which were not so popular in Mauritius. But in very little time, people have accepted the new style after having seen their children gain lots of self-confidence and discipline in their life. Our students now eagerly wait for their classes.” SAS Dance Group is proud to say that its mission is to develop dance and choreography to a level of excellence for traditional and non traditional formats including stages, galleries and other surfaces. “We aim to engage the perception and imagination of both artist and audiences (locally, nationally and internationally) and to make the world healthier with our dance and fitness programmes.” SAS Dance Company is planning to spread its dance centres across the island to give people of other areas of Mauritius a fun, healthy and stress free life. The company is also planning to offer professional studies in dance and thus will give people more opportunity to learn dance at a higher level.
