Rotary Club of Vacoas plants endemic trees

The President of the Rotary International, Ian Riseley, has challenged every Rotary club to make a difference by planting a tree for each of its members between the start of the Rotary year on 1 July 2017 to Earth Day on 22 April 2018. The Rotary Club of Vacoas has accepted this challenge and has seized the opportunity of the visit of the District Governor, last week, to plant endemic trees at the Rotary Green Park at SSR Avenue, Phoenix.

The District Governor Manoj Vaghjee, the President of Rotary Club of Vacoas Nishta Jooty, a delegation of Rotarians, together with His Worship, Farhad Dowlut, The Mayor of Vacoas-Phoenix and the councillors of Vacoas-Phoenix, each planted one endemic tree along the Rotary Green Park. People in the neighbourhood were approached and invited to plant trees as well. They were also sensitised on environmental issues. Protecting the environment and curbing climate change are essential to Rotary’s goal of sustainable service.
