Radio Plus Talent Show: Seven winners for the first edition

The finals of the Radio Plus Talent Show were held on Wednesday 14 December 2016, at the Trianon Shopping Park from 10 am to 4.30 pm. This first edition of the show has seen seven winners in the two different age groups - three to nine years old and 10 to 18 years old.

For these finals, 26 participants were selected from the preliminaries held in different regions of the island over the past few weeks. Auditions were held in four regions namely: Flacq, Rose Belle, Grand Baie and Cascavelle. The finalists were able to display their skills in front of an enthusiastic public under the scorching sun in Trianon. For Venen Coolen, broadcast director at Radio Plus, the first Radio Plus Talent Show has been a success. 

“We managed to organise a high level show. I am impressed by the performance of the children and teenagers. Our platform has encouraged them to express themselves and get rid of their shyness. We have achieved our objective. A second edition is scheduled for next year,” said Venen Coolen.

The 26 finalists had rehearsals prior to the finals. The jury comprised of artists such as Yoni Sauterelle, Stephen Bongarçon and Jean Danielle. They had the tough job of selecting seven winners from the highly talented pool of participants. In the 3 to 9 years old category, Nishtee Poodhun came out first followed by Ethan Geoffroy (8 years old) and Hillary Bavajee (7 years old). For the second age group, 10 to 18 years old, Jerry Joyeuse came out first followed by Deepshika Rajee (17 years old) and the duo Joe and Salliman (aged 12 and 13 respectively). 14-year old Anesh Ramdoo bagged the title in the “other talents” category for his sketch.

Winners received gift vouchers and products from sponsors, namely Weetabix, Island Haze, Canal Plus, Blue Diamond Spa, Mirinda, Fabindia, Split Club, Coco Town and Casela Karting, among others. Voile Rouge gifted winners a cruise to Ile-aux-Cerfs including lunch.
