The President of the Republic Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, who is actually in France, was made Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour by French President François Hollande on Wednesday 30th March. It is the President herself who announced the news on her official Facebook page and Twitter account. President Gurib-Fakim thanked her “for her country’s strong involvement in favour of the ambitious agreement signed in Paris during the COP21.” According to a statement issued by the Elysée, François Hollande “welcomed the effort promised by the Republic of Mauritius on mitigation of climate change, with a decline of 30% in CO2 emissions by 2030.” He also “welcomed the commitment of the Mauritian President for equality between men and women.”
