Policeman arrested with heroin worth Rs 35 million

Arvind Hurreechurn, a 25-year-old police constable assigned to Piton police station, was arrested on Tuesday 25 October at Plaisance airport following the discovery of two kilograms of heroin in his carry-on. The drug, which was concealed in a parcel, was discovered by the Anti-Narcotics Section of the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) and the anti-drug squad (ADSU). The policeman  was returning from Madagascar on flight MK 289. Information obtained by the ADSU also led to the arrest of a man named “Black”, who is an accomplice of the constable. He should have caught his flight for Uganda but he was stopped at the airport, as he was the subject to an ‘objection to departure’. Arvind Hurreechurn and his accomplice were placed in custody for ‘drug dealing.’ The investigation is supervised by the DCP Choolun Bhoojoo, head of ADSU. The street value of the drug is estimated at Rs 35 million.
