The chairman of the Education Committee of the MMM Steven Obeegadoo revealed that 17 000 children do not attend school.
“Education is a fundamental right but this is not the case with disabled children.” He made an appeal to the Prime Minister Sir Anerood Jugnauth that expenses for children in primary and secondary are the same, whether disabled or not. Françoise Labelle indicated that the disabled are not entitled to free education.
“With the Nine-Year Schooling, we heard nothing about children with disabilities. Some have learning disabilities. The Minister said that there will be remedial classes. How many of these classes will be reserved for the disabled? We do not know. The right to education is not respected,” she said.
