Measures to prohibit catching juvenile fish

The Minister of Ocean Economy, Prem Koonjoo, announced during a seminar organised by the Mauritius Oceanography Institute as part of the Ocean Day observed on Wednesday, that amendments will be brought to laws in order to regulate fishing of juvenile fishes and octopus. On the occasion, the Minister also made an appeal to the youth who wish to work in the fishing industry. “We’ll give them the training and resources needed through grants,” he said. Prem Koonjoo added that the National Policy on Blue Economy aims to foster better exploitation of marine wealth.
