Father Laval pilgrimage

Saturday 9 September marks the 153th year of the death of Father Laval, the apostle of Mauritius beatified by Pope John Paul the second in 1989. The theme of the pilgrimage this year is – ‘Father Laval ask Jesus to Open My Eyes.’

On the night of Friday 8 September, thousands of Mauritians of all faiths will make their way to Sainte Croix, the place where Father Laval is lying. Police and the organisers have put in place all necessary security measures so that the pilgrimage is performed in a solemn and religious atmosphere.
