The finale of the 8th National Painting Championship 2017 organised by the Shiva Yoga Centre in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports was held on Saturday 28th October at La Maison Eureka, Moka.
The painting competition gathered youth in two categories, namely Category A: 14-18 years and Category B: 19-29 years around the theme ‘Star and Cloud’ (Etoile et Nuage). The 24 participants had only 45 minutes to showcase their painting talents on an A3 paper.
The first prize in Category A went to Ameegah Paul, 2nd prize to Shameeha Chamroo and 3rd prize to Amreen Ahmed. In Category B, it was Gitanjalie Jhottee who bagged the first prize. The 2nd prize went to Amirah Bibi Baccur and 3rd prize to Priya Mudcoo. The special jury prize was awarded to Hadyah Alladee and to Hertiksha Gopaul. The young talent prize was awarded to Rohan Dabidin and to Romanick Fine.
The Shiva Yoga Centre also rewarded the most promising talents in the two categories. The Most Promising Male Artists in Category A went to Devarajen Malayandi while the Most Promising Female Artist in the same category was awarded to Ameegah Paul. In Category B, the Most Promising Female Artist award was given to Gitanjalie Jhottee, who was also awarded the Champion Trophy.
In recognition for her support and contribution for the promotion of Art at Regional and National Levels, Karishmah Purmah was given an appreciation award. Note that the exhibition of the paintings done by the participants in this 8th National Painting Championship will take place on 3rd December at Chateau Villebague, Grande Rosalie.
