The Australian High Commissioner to Mauritius, HE Ms Susan Coles, joined Australian and Mauritian children and swimmers of the Mauritian National team on Wednesday 19th April to participate in a number of Queen’s Baton Relay activities which kicked off at Kite Surf Lagoon at Le Morne and ended at the St Regis Resort Mauritius.

Mauritius is the 10th country that the Queen’s Baton Relay will be visiting since it departed Buckingham Palace in London, UK in March 2017. The baton will visit a total of 69 countries of the Commonwealth before arriving in Australia in December 2017 ahead of the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will be the biggest international sporting event staged in Australia for a decade and the largest ever hosted by the Gold Coast, attracting more than 100,000 visitors, a worldwide TV audience of more than 1.5 billion people and up to 15,000 volunteers. The 2018 Games will also be the largest-ever para-sport program in Commonwealth Games history, comprising up to 300 para-athletes and 38 medal events across seven sports.
The Australian High Commission is pleased to have collaborated with the Mauritius National Olympic Committee and the Mauritius Swimming Federation to organise the Finale of the Commonwealth Games Queen’s Baton Relay in Mauritius.
Commenting at the Finale of the Queen’s Baton Relay in Mauritius, High Commissioner Coles said: “The activities that we have organised for the Queen’s Baton Relay’s visit to Mauritius have provided an excellent opportunity to celebrate Australia and Mauritius strong people-to-people links and shared love for sport. Sport is a universal language and as we mark the finale of the Queen’s Baton Relay in Mauritius, let us also celebrate the shared values of the Commonwealth – our great sporting values and rich diversity.”
