In the context of the International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDRR) 2017, a five-day workshop on Ecosystem Management for Effective Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation was held at Palms Hotel, Quatre Bornes. The theme for this year is “Home Safe Home: Reducing Exposure, Reducing Displacement”.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Security, National Solidarity, and Environment and Sustainable, Mrs Nema Devi Goorah, outlined that, in the context of “Home Safe Home: Reducing Exposure, Reducing Displacement”, Government has initiated the following projects: Relocation of 11 families of Quatre Soeurs whose houses have been affected by landslides; Quatre Soeur Refuge Centre; and Coastal Protection works at Rivière des Galets. With regard to the five-day workshop, the Permanent Secretary pointed out that participants, who have gained new and useful knowledge, are now able to bring it to their respective organisations so as to apply the Ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction approach.
