Double suicide at Gris Gris

Father Pierre René Guichoix aged 75 and Ranee B.A. (aged 46) from Surinam committed suicide at Gris Gris on Wednesday. Before killing himself, the priest phoned a 17-year old girl to bid his farewell. Police questioned her afterwards. According to sources, on Wednesday morning, Father Jean Maurice Labour, Vicar General, recorded a statement at the Souillac Police regarding the disappearance of Father Guichoux. The French priest, who officiated at a church in Plaines Wilhems, was on spiritual retreat at the Charité Notre Dame de l’Unité home at Gris Gris since Sunday. On Wednesday at around 1pm, the police received information about a possible suicide in Gris Gris. The National Coast Guard launched a search mission and came across the body. The Chetak helicopter was on summoned on the scene to recover the body of Ranee which was 400 m out at sea. Police trust that the two suicide cases are not linked. Autopsies performed by pathologists, Drs. Maxwell Monvoisin and Shaila Prasad-Jankee, attributed the deaths of the two victims to asphyxia due to drowning.
