Development of 2,300 acres of state land at Highlands

Some 2,300 acres of state land falling under the State Land Properties Development Corporation (SLDC), namely at Highlands and the surrounding areas, will be used for various projects. Within a month, talks will start with various ‘stakeholders’ to identify the best ways to develop the land. Luxconsult, a consultancy company, has already prepared a master plan for the development of these lands. The masterplan also includes some 336 acres originally earmarked for the former Heritage City project.

These lands had been transferred to Heritage City Co. Ltd. Initially the SLDC owned 3,035 acres in the region of Highlands and Ebène. The lands have been allocated for various other projects. For example, 341 acres have been allocated to the project of Bagatelle Dam. In addition, the SLDC also has 93 acres at La Vallette, part of which was used to set up a Model Village, and 290 acres in the area of La Tour Koenig. Some of these lands have been leased to factories. It is in fact not the first time that the government wants to develop SLDC lands in the regions of Highlands and the surroundings.

A first Masterplan designed by the study office of Halcrow had already been presented in 2004. It was then a question of the development regarding the higher education sector or the building of a racetrack, among others. Since then the project has repeatedly been reviewed.
