He is back with his fourth exhibition. Christophe Rey, well known artist in Mauritius, invites the public to discover a world protecting people with different forms and types of armours. Indeed, the artist has been working hard for a year to present around 30 artworks on the title ‘Armour and the Illusion of Strength.’
“The title Armour and the Illusion of Strength stems from our obsession with longevity and how we try our best to protect ourselves using armour; and armour not only in the military sense, but also with the help of amulets, superstitions, religion, prayer, exercise, diet etc. These provide us with a somewhat false sense of security, however, for life, however lived, will eventually end,” explains the artist.
Taking place at the Imaaya Gallery at Phoenix, the exhibition invites you to give deep thought to how we protect ourselves and from where we draw our strength of the mind and body. Until November 25th, Christophe Rey will be exhibiting 22 paintings and also a few creative sculptures. “I explore this topic mostly through acrylic paintings but also through writings, hand-made breastplates, and a few installations,” says Christophe Rey.
For this 4th exhibition, the public will have the opportunity to purchase the artist’s work. “If visitors like and appreciate my artwork, they have the chance to purchase it,” add the artist. Christophe Rey promises to come back next year, this time with a music album. “My plans for next year is to record another album. It’s been in the pipeline for some time now,” he reveals.
