[Blog] Prime Minister! Freeze the proposed American Agreement! Don’t betray the Mauritian Nation!

On the 29th of May, two days before Mother’s Day, the Cabinet through its communiqué informed us of the following shocking information: “3. Cabinet has agreed to the signing of the Acquisition and Cross-Servicing Agreement between the Republic of Mauritius and the United States of America. The main objective of the Agreement is to establish basic terms, conditions and procedures to facilitate the reciprocal provision of logistic support, supplies and services to further the interoperability, readiness and effectiveness of the military forces of the United States and the Mauritius Police Force. The Agreement will set out standardised procedures for requesting and delivering support, financial settlement modalities, accountability mechanisms, as well as provisions relating to information handling and administrative coordination.”

Two days before Mother’s Day and now we have a rape of our sovereignty by the mighty superpower and sadly one week has elapsed without any reaction from people who like to drape themselves with the Mauritian flag.

Do we know the contents of the proposed agreement before we agree to sign same?

History teaches us that America does not sign futile agreements and do not respect agreements they have signed.

Do you remember how Trump qualified Mauritius as a stupid island?

In fact by signing the Agreement, we will confirm that really we are stupid.

Surely in private the Americans are treating us like morons. For them Mauritius is not a democracy but a kakistocracy. See for yourself how America has treated other powerful European countries.

And morons we are if we think that Americans will treat us as equals when we sign the agreement / treaty.

The treaty will make the Mauritius Police Force become an appendix of the US Military forces. Are we in a position to utter the word NO to them once the treaty is signed by us?

Will the gargantuan Yankee not swallow our police force?

Will the Americans not occupy de facto our island?

Will the Americans not swamp the National Security Service?

Will they not shadow all our institutions?

Can you name one of our institutions which will be able to stand up to the Americans?

Is the agreement not a ploy of the Americans to tighten their grip on Diego Garcia or have a fallback position if ever they have to return Diego Garcia to us?

Will the Americans under the guise of joint exercises not have effective control on our land, sea and air?

Are we not aware that the Americans are already building a mammoth construction at Bagatelle with military helicopter pads?

Will the new seat of the American Embassy not become their central command for their Indian Ocean activities?

Will the agents of our NSS not become subservient to the different American Agencies?

Are we not aware that we are living at a very difficult juncture with war-mongering Trump?

What lame excuses will Ramgoolam put forward to fool us?

By signing the agreement Ramgoolam will fool the nation again by dangling all sorts of golden carrots?

Will the Americans build barracks around the island for the American soldiers?

Will the American soldiers be prosecuted before our courts for criminal actions?

We are slowly but surely becoming like Israel whose mighty army is a quasi sub unit of the American army with the aim of controlling the Middle East?

Will Ramgoolam be foolish enough to believe that we will get the 10 billion rupees if we sign that agreement?

Lastly, will the government publish the full details of the proposed agreement including all exchanges of correspondence? I have to ask the question despite knowing that Ramgoolam is ruling the country with a heavy curtain of opacity.

I am vehemently against the proposed agreement. I will never support this agreement.

I believe it will flush our sovereignty forever!

I believe that by so doing we will become the generation of Mauritians which will sell our sovereignty for the third time.

First begging for the blood money of 10 billion rupees.

Secondly with the Indian Agalega Agreement.

Thirdly with the proposed American agreement.

God! Must we live in constant fear of being sold out by our so called leaders!
I join Lalit (the only political party genuinely fighting for our sovereignty) to call on the Prime Minister to open a national debate on that most vital subject?
