Respected Leaders, Guardians, and Citizens,

Our beloved Mauritius is on fire. My paradise is converting into hell. The Central Water Authority does not have sufficient water to put off the flames, nor does the Central Electricity Board have sufficient fuel to lighten our path.

This fire is not only symbolic — it is real. Loud music during sacred pilgrimage, reckless driving on our roads, senior citizens living in fear, and 3.5 tons of drugs seized in a single month. These are not isolated sparks; they are the blaze of a society losing its way.

Where are the voices of conscience? Where are the pens that once condemned barbarity? Silence has become complicity. Every guardian of peace and harmony seems to have failed.

We cannot remain silent. We call for:

  • Urgent reform of institutional appointments to ensure transparency and meritocracy.
  • Decisive action against the drug crisis, with specialized forces (SMF, army) empowered to protect our youth.
  • Recognition that the enemies are within society — not only at borders. All incoming and outgoing calls from prisons must be monitored to dismantle trafficking networks and clean the country.
  • Restoration of trust in law enforcement by relieving the police of excessive burdens and focusing them on core duties.
  • Collective responsibility from political parties, press, religious institutions, and civic federations to condemn lawlessness and defend justice.

Mauritians of good vision, please awake. Help yourselves, and help the seeds of tomorrow — our children, our youth, our future. If poison reaches our streets, countless lives will be lost. If silence continues, our democracy will erode.

Let us rise together — Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Buddhists, all communities — to demand accountability and to protect the paradise island we call home.

CRY, CRY, CRY — but let our cry become a clarion call for justice and renewal.

With respect and urgency,

Dharamraj Deenoo,

Secretary- General FAM: FAM AN MARS]
