Anil Gayan eyes African Union chair

Minister of Health Anil Gayan is a candidate for the next election of the President of the African Union Commission. His name has been submitted by the government of Mauritius. The election is scheduled for July at the Summit of African Heads of State of the African Union in Kigali, Rwanda. Anil Gayan had stated that he is ready to give up his ministerial post if elected to the presidency of the African Union Commission. Former head of the Mauritian diplomacy between 1983 and 1986 and from 2000 to 2003, Anil Gayan has a good knowledge of the workings of the African Union.
