While some artists depict only the plain external appearance of things or life, some prefer to explore deeper and portray the unseen and unnoticed instances. In his exhibition taking place until February 24th at the Henessy Parky Hotel, Ebene, the artist Yannick Durhone invites you to discover the hidden and the invisible facet of lively Mauritius.
Following his studies in Plastic Art and Communication in France in 2006, Yannick returned to the motherland. The young and motivated artist decided to set up ‘Le Sapin Café Culture.’ The place becomes the famous place to be and meeting spot for all musicians and artists.
After some years, Yannick got the chance to hold his first solo exhibition in 2009. This first step opened the doors for more opportunities and adventures for the artist. Yannick then started to explore and add atypical elements in his artistic repertoire. The forward-looking and versatile artist started to work on rusty iron sheets. Among the various types of paintings and technics he applied are pastel, gouache, oil, acid, coffee and others.
Yannick’s distinctive techniques merged together and gave rise to unique artworks. For the artist, iron sheets form part of his artistic work and they give more body (plus de relief) to his paintings.
Through the exhibition ‘AnDehor Kad’ (Outside of the frame), Yannick showcases his vision of his environment and shares with the grand public his experience and concerns. The exhibition explores various themes ranging from famous characters/people to his simple yet remarkable landscape of his neighbourhood. Yannick Durhone trusts that at the end of the day, it is the emotion transpired in and provoked by the painting which is the most important.
Through ‘AnDehor Kad’, Yannick is also inviting you to uncover the often overlooked facet of Mauritius which is rarely depicted in paintings. Entrance to the exhibition is free.
