Air Mauritius: Working towards a peaceful resolution

Air Mauritius has set up a ‘Committee of Sages’ to ensure a communication line. The CEO of Air Mauritius announced that they are heading towards appeasement of the situation. However, he also revealed that a huge loss was incurred as a result of the cancellation of flights. The Committee will comprise of three captains and two members of the leadership, including commanders Banymandhub and Essoof and two members of the direction, Sudhir Beehary Panray and Bernard Sadien. He points out that the management has asked the two dismissed pilots, Bryan Ulyate and Patrick Hofman, to send a letter each to the management, according to the procedures.

However, Somas Appavou does not want to call these letters “words of apology.” On the other hand, he points out that this correspondence will lead to a “thoughtful” decision by the board of directors to get the pilots back to work. Somas Appavou says the operations are restored, even if there were many cases of rescheduling. “Since Thursday, Air Mauritius has operated 192 flights and its aircraft have carried 25,000 passengers.” Concerning the investigations by international trade union associations and the criticism of the international airlines, Somas Appavou says he is not aware of these. “I would have known if there was an investigation on Air Mauritius.”
