This year, Mauritius celebrates the 48th anniversary of its Independence and 24th anniversary of the Republic. The official programme will be held at Champ de Mars as from 18:00 hours.
The programme comprises of: a Flag Raising Ceremony; a march past by the Police Band, Disciplined Forces and Uniformed Organisations; display by helicopters and Dornier aircraft; Queen Elizabeth College Majorettes; performance by Veeramundar Band and a cultural show by local artists followed by fireworks.
Arrangements have been made for those travelling by bus to Champ de Mars two hours before and two hours after the official celebrations as follows: all fare-paying passengers to pay half the normal rate and children aged less than 13 years to travel free of charge.
In addition, cultural shows would be held on 13 March 2016 as from 17:00 hours at Flacq and Bambous. The official theme for National Day Celebrations 2016 is ‘Nou Destin dan Nou Lame.’ State Visit of the President of the Republic of Madagascar
The President of the Republic of Madagascar, Mr Hery Rajaonarimampianina, will be on a State Visit to Mauritius from March 10 to 13 on the occasion of the National Day celebrations 2016. He will pay a courtesy call on the President Dr Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, and meet the Prime Minister, Sir Anerood Jugnauth. He will also meet the Chief Justice, the Speaker, and the Leader of the Opposition. He will visit the Aapravasi Ghat, lay a wreath at Le Morne and visit Socota Phoenicia at Phoenix.
