The Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) celebrated, last Friday, the integration of 280 new Mauritian members into its global network. Leo Lee, the ACCA’s global vice president, on an official visit to Mauritius, was the main personality at this ceremony held at the hotel Le Meridien Mauritius.
This eighth Mauritian edition of the New Member Ceremony was an opportunity to welcome symbolically, in front of a part of their peers, the new accountants having achieved between June 2016 and July 2017 this very rewarding status in the ACCA sector. They have also received their ACCA pins, a symbol of their belonging to this prestigious organization. More than 85% of Mauritian accountants are ACCA members. Mauritius is also the territory with the largest number of ACCA members in sub-Saharan Africa.
In his address, Leo Lee stated that the undeniable assets to be an ACCA member are access to our international network. “We have an international presence, which constitutes certain strength in this world in permanent evolution and subject to turbulence. The ACCA does not spare any effort to be aware of trends in this area.”
To achieve ACCA membership status, candidates must first pass all ACCA exams, and then meet the criteria required and monitored by ACCA during a practice of at least three years old. ACCA members must also, every year, perform professional activities and take courses in various fields related to their profession to demonstrate that they have an up-to-date training and that they develop their skills and respect for ethical rules. This procedure allows them to keep the ACCA Chartered Accountant status.
